Madres Unidas Receives $25,000 Grant

Orange County Bar Foundation is pleased to announce that a grant in the amount of $25,000 has been approved by Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian Community Benefit Program for its program Madres Unidas.

Madres Unidas gives women and the families they love the knowledge, skills and pride to actively protect them from becoming infected with HIV/AIDS. Madres Unidas provides six sessions of health education and risk reduction services, combined with up to 8 weeks of family counseling, to improve family functioning. All services are provided in a culturally competent manner, tailored and adapted for Latinas 25-50 years of age. The two-hour sessions are offered once-a-week in a small group format and facilitated by an OCBF bilingual/bicultural Latina Health Educator. The final session focuses on the importance of HIV testing and incorporates community healthcare referral resources. Participants of the program are provided HIV testing free of charge.

The mission of the nonprofit, faith-based hospital is to provide the highest quality health care services to the communities they serve. Orange County Bar Foundation is excited to partner with Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian Community Benefit Program in fulfilling our mission to keep at risk youth in school, healthy and drug-free through education, counseling, mentoring and family strengthening and provide this much needed program in our community.
