Society of Fellows

“Fellows” programs are among the most utilized fundraising techniques of Bar Foundations around the country, designed to cultivate individual lawyer and professional gifts over a multi-year period. Replicated from a model developed by the American Bar Foundation, “Fellows” programs are, in essence, donor societies, created to recognize attorneys, judges, and other professionals and public servants who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of their communities.

Funds raised through the Society of Fellows help sustain Project Youth OCBF’s mission of keeping at-risk youth out of jail, in school, healthy and drug free through education, counseling, mentoring, and family strengthening. Each year, Project Youth hosts a Society of Fellows event to honor its members, selecting one member to receive the Distinguished Fellows Award and one judicial member to receive the Distinguished Judicial Fellows Award. Upon initiation, Fellows receive a Certificate of Membership, a Society of Fellows lapel pin that identifies them as a Fellow member, and recognition at Project Youth events & in publications. To find out more information about the Society of Fellows, please contact Nancy Garcia, Associate Director, via email at ngarcia@pyocbf.org or by phone at (714) 480-1925, ext. 108.

10th Annual Society of Fellows Distinguished Judicial Fellow Award

The 10th Annual Society of Fellows Distinguished Judicial Fellow Award recipient of 2018 was The Honorable Judith M. Ryan (Ret.), recognized for her outstanding efforts on behalf of the Orange County Community and her embodiment of the values Project Youth OCBF stands for, not to mention her longterm support of Project Youth OCBF.  She has always been a model of hard work, honesty and fairness in the Orange County legal community.

Judge Ryan has a reputation for successfully mediating and resolving complex employment matters. She has handled all types of cases, including wage and hour disputes, sexual harassment claims, and discrimination claims based on sexual orientation, race, gender, and national origin. Based on her background and experience as a litigator and instructor in the area, in addition to her dispute resolution experience, she is skilled at working with both sides in addressing and resolving highly charged and emotional issues. Judge Ryan has mediated and arbitrated hundreds of employment matters as a judge and arbitrator.

As Corporate Counsel with Hunt Wesson Foods, Inc., she supervised all in-house investigations regarding employment matters, conducted training on employment law compliance, and oversaw all employment litigation. While serving as Deputy City Attorney/Police Advisor for the Santa Ana Police Department, she was responsible for employment litigation matters, including class actions. Judge Ryan taught employment discrimination law as an adjunct professor for Western State University College of Law for four years and has lectured on the subject at various legal and civic organizations.

We thank Judge Ryan for her outstanding services to the Orange County community.

11th Annual Society of Fellows Distinguished Fellow Award

The 11th Annual Society of Fellows Distinguished Fellow Award of 2018 went to Timothy D. Carlyle for his outstanding services on behalf of Project Youth OCBF and the Orange County community.

Timothy D. Carlyle is a partner at Songstad Randall Coffee & Humphrey LLP and has extensive experience in a wide range of real estate, commercial, corporate and finance matters.  Mr. Carlyle’s practice includes the representation of buyers and sellers in purchase and sale transactions related to commercial, industrial and residential properties, representation of landlords and tenants in commercial, retail and office properties, and representation of lenders and borrowers in real estate, construction and commercial financing transactions. His experience also includes representation of clients seeking governmental and agency entitlements related to the development of real property.  In addition he has represented clients in numerous transactions involving business entity formations, business mergers, acquisitions, operations and dispositions.

Mr. Carlyle is a longtime supporter of Project Youth OCBF and Society of Fellows member. He is a wonderful Project Youth OCBF volunteer and friend and we know the entire Orange County community, especially the legal community, is fortunate to have him working so hard to better it. He is one of our first Fellows and strongly believes that investing in the prevention and early intervention programs betters our community and provides compelling evidence to all of the need to support the Society of Fellows.

2019 Society of Fellows Chairman’s Message

Brian M. Daucher, Esq.

I am honored to Chair Project Youth OCBF’s Society of Fellows for 2019.

For 12 years, the Society of Fellows has served a critical role for Project Youth OCBF, by linking our organization to the broader community and also providing a critical source of additional funding for our youth programs.  The Society now stands at 231 members.  Since inception, the Society has raised over $425,525, money that directly supports our youth services.

From our flagship program, SHORTSTOP juvenile diversion to our college mentoring (Higher Education Mentoring Program) and summer employment (Project SELF), each of our programs benefits from the broad based support of the Society.  Thousands of Orange County youth have benefited from our support; and, now, many of them enjoy successful professional careers.  Many of our program graduates now support these programs themselves, with time and money.

As we kick off the Project Youth OCBF Capital Campaign, Elevate, we look forward to working with our existing Society members and reaching new members.  The Society is a great way for the broader community both to help spread our message and extend our community support.

To this end, whether you are a longstanding, new, or prospective member, we look forward to seeing you at our Society events this year.

Thank you for your time, support, and commitment to Project Youth OCBF – I promise you, it is well worth it.

Sincerely,

Brian M. Daucher, Esq.
Chairman, Society of Fellows
